computer desk: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00141482

Shelf: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/10011017

Both only cost 68.99

The desk is really sturdy very strong. i was amazed when i saw the price.

Nice desk mate!! i really want to have a desk where i can have my antec 1200 on top like yours but its gonna have to be mighty sturdy cos it ways a ton!!!

It does pay to park the case as high as possible... Most of us probably consider our pride and joys as works of art, plus less dust will settle at higher altitudes ;)

I have a surplus desk from my old work its 180 x 80 and i can stand on it, why not have a look at ex office furniture as most companies just give it away when its replaced.

I need a new desk mines falling to bits!! The problem i have is i want my antec 1200 case on top of a desk but its really heavy and im worried that most desks might not be able to take the weight. Im fed up of having it on the floor and the fan filters clogging up with dust :(

Im looking for around a £70 budget

Since spotting this useful thread, I've measured the keyboard shelf height we both need to give good posture (90 degree upper/lower arm, with upper arm by torso sides). Taking into account the maximum height of the chairs, we need something with ~64cm keyboard and mouse shelf height.

So for us, the Ikea Galants with their adjustable 60+cm legs look the way forward (perhaps the 200cm wide one, allowing us both to use the same desk for two setups).

Thanks for all the advice guys, I ended up getting a custom made pine table 5ft by 30inches, I'll post pictures when its built (end of next week).

The best option seemed like a Galant other than this but working on one in the office 3 days a week I thought I'd like a cosier desk at home

Best off the shelf desks by far are the old Ikea "jerker" desks.

Hard to find tho and if anyone has any spare shelves they want to sell let me know !

I have an Ikea Galant desk combination, its huge! 9 foot accross, 80 cm deep most of the way apart from the corner bit which sticks out a lot further! Was an absolute bugger to put together on my own but I'd recommend them to anybody - build quality is superb and so many different options to customise them.

On a random visit to The Range last week, this "New Orbit" desk has really caught my better half's eye...

The lower big shelf has a rotational axis, so it can be in compact form, within the dimensions of the rest of the structure, or can rotated out as a seperate writing or arts&craft desk.

The sliding keyboard is at a height of ~68cm, which is a fraction higher than what would give a good arm posture (90 degrees lower/upper, with straight wrist), but its the compact/extension design that really has caught her eye, given our compact dining room and lounge maisonette (and the crazy amount of furniture we have for it, having downsized!).

or goto an office warehouse who do 2nd hand desks....a lot of desks being offered by these places from offices who have went bust. I picked up a nice beech desk 1600x1600 and is solid perfect condition for 65 quid delivered n assembled

I have a Galant desk at the moment and it really does fit the bill for a full workstation. I can happily fit 4+ 23" monitors on this... and have room for lots more accesories. It will cost £179 from ikea, and had a nice position for sitting, with lengthened left or right side.
