Looking for a new laptop or a netbook. Main purpose is a backup thing really. I have a nice highly specced desktop, which is plagued with problems so never know when it'l just stop working. So if that happens, I need something else I can use. It's use though would mostly be browsing and work (ms office). No games or anything else. Lightweight would be great since it'l come in really useful in the next month for frequent trips to the library.

I did orginially want it for note taking in the libraries as well, but the place i'm at next year seems to have plenty of computers so seems like that shouldn't be a issue.

Price - cheap would be great :) I have a upper limit of say 600, but little browsing suggests I can get netbooks for 250 - 300 so if you guys think those ones will serve my purpose, then great :D

So...suggestions?

Yea, but there are differences between the after sales service of the various companies :) which would you recommend?

Screen size is nice to have...but i'm not sure how important. Since it's a backup for the CPU more than anything else, I can always plug it into the monitor I have currently etc. It would be a bit more important if I was using it regularly to take notes and work on, but I think that'l be a more occasional thing since the new place of study has plenty of computers everywhere.

What kind of specs do you think I should be looking at? I know a bit about PC specs, but very little about laptop specs. how does the atom compare with the centrino, that i've heard is good, and the dual core stuff? how much ram should i be looking at? 1 gig is ok or go at least for 2 even on a backup?

Samsung NC10, absolutely love mine. Three of my friends have since bought them since seeing mine. I'm on a computer science course, so loads of people have netbooks, and most just look like toys in comparison.
