For the past few weeks I being hearing the connect and disconnect sound. Started happening more recently, now if I am playing a game it will cause the game minimize.

I have disconnected all USB devices included mouse and keyboard and it still happens. Looking in the control panel, it will refresh every time the disconnect and connect sound plays. So its something hardware wise but I cant find out what is it.

Is there anywhere within Windows 8.1 a log to find out piece of hardware is causing this or 3rd party program? My spec are

Windows 8.1 update 1
512gb SDD and 3tb standard HDD
16GB RAM
Asus Z87-PRO motherboard with 4770k running at stock
AMD R9 290 Pro

Thanks.

I've got an Icybox USB3 Card Reader/USB socket thinngy plugged into my Motherboard (20pin plug) that doesn't like Windows 8 (as I've now found out) which will connect at start up 'Ba-Dink' and disconnect about 10 minutes later 'Ba-Donk'

The USB3 Socket still works, but the Card Reader doesn't!. which is annoyballs!!

You could have a piece of hardware that loads at start and then decides to disconnect!

Funny you say that, I was thinking the same. So tonight I'm to disconnect all my internal USB ports plus the card reader and see how that goes. Hopefully that will solve the problem. Don't want to go through RMA'ing the motherboard back to ASUS if faulty.
