Not at all. I'm a Porter at the Royal Stoke University Hospital. Pick them up on the ward/dept and then transport them to the mortuary. Put them in a fridge, do the paperwork and then hand off to bereavement services.

Could I ask a question?
My mother suddenly died Friday 12th and we are waiting to hear from the Coroner, and I know this maybe an impossible question, but is there roughly an average time to inform family.

Not really because if she died in a hospital he would request reports from all relevant Clinicians involved, that could be one or ten.
That would also apply if she suddenly died in the community.
Our new Coroner upped the ante by forcing our Clinicians into doing reports, he's even had them coming home from holidays to attend Inquests if they didn't submit a report on time.
At one time our Inquests were anywhere from 6 months to a year (or more) before they took place but the Coroner now submits a date when he wants the Inquest to happen.
Hopefully your Coroner is on the ball.

Of course a Post Mortem might be all he needs if he doesn't think negligence or anything untowards has taken place so it all depends when the Pathologist gets involved.

It was sudden death at home and was informed it would be today latest, but am not going to go Karen over it.

To be honest I was obviously posting about an Inquest but if a Post Mortem was done immediately, the Pathologist could have an immediate answer.
A phone call wouldn't go amiss but like you say don't go all Karen over it.

To be fair, i'm now a bit worried about you as the thread title is about finding them. Have mortality rates risen since you've started?

I found out afterwards that he had been dead for five days. I also found out the guy below him heard him shout out then a bang five days before. No wonder he was crying on the door step that evening. He was feeling guilty.

There's only one job I've ever gone for at the hospital besides my own and that is a Pathologists Assistant.
I had to spend a couple of hours while he was doing a Post Mortem to make sure I could handle it and handle the body parts he was passing to me.
Also checking to see if I could handle the smell which was awful but I put up with it.
A couple of days later I bumped into the proper assistant who said I was one of two they were interested in so we talked about the job.
It was that moment when he mentioned 'On Call' which was never mentioned to me, in other words every other weekend I could be rang at any time to go in so my hobby of playing a band would have to stop.
Also I couldn't plan my time out to do gigs because at a moments notice I could be asked to change so I rang and said I wasn't interested any more

We used to have a member here many moons ago who did the same job at the same hospital but I think he got perma'd.

Earlier this year, I was walking down a road and noticed some feet on the path at the side of a house. Enquired with a neighbour and he said the man is late 80s. We both went to the body and the man slipped on something as a nasty gash on front of head.

You want to see the mortuary/pathology techs. we have now. Three of them, and all three are properly hot. Almost feels wrong chatting and flirting with them when surrounded by bodies.

I only ever go into the office at the Mortuary, I'll have to see if the Receptionist will let me in behind the glass windows.
@Malevolence are those big glass windows still there where you can see them doing Autopsy's?

I don't know about the offices, but you can't from the body storage. The only way you can see into the autopsy suite from the body storage is if you open one of the double sided fridges used for special cases, like murder victims and suspicious circs.
