I have recently finished my own website (http://www.willdoyle.co.uk)

Now I want to make websites for small companys etc etc

But how do I go about finding clients?

I have brought 300 buisness cards, but not sure what to do with them. I have added my site to most search engines (google, yahoo & Ask)

Much appreciated

Contacts. All of the freelance clients I've had so far came from referrals from past colleagues. I've also been googling local agencies to see if they outsource, but I haven't had chance to consider taking on any more work yet!

I would approach local businesses mentioing that you are starting up in the area and would like to provide local businesses with the opportunity to get a discounted website designed etc.

Yellow pages are a god send to have a scan through as a starting point.

Once you have done a couple stop the discount offer but at least you have other local businesses in your portfolio.

Possibly approach competetors of the people you have done web sites for and show the new business what you have done for another company in the area.

That may lead to the 'Oooo they have a new site so we best re do ours to keep up' mentality

Good luck :)

Go with that, there's usually loads of people local to you that either want one or want a new one but are not looking to spend a load. It won't make you a fortune, but it should give you a varied range of business types to add to your portfolio which will mean people end up coming to you.

Oh and you've a rogue > at the end of your google analytics code that's showing up on the page ;)

I have emailed a few accountants saying Ill make them a website for free.
