Hi all,

Decided my next car is going to be an s14a 200sx got a good insurance quote on one and think it all makes sense!!

I've registered on sxoc.co.uk and am finding it hard to find one I'm even 70% happy with, they all seem overpriced, modded to the max or just pants.
I'm searching on autotrader, exchange and mart, pistonheads and still can't find one I want!!
Looking for one in Black/Blue with 60K or below and it seems to be impossible to find one at the right price!
I'm looking at up to 6.5K and would like a really good example for that kind of money pref. with a few choice mods - FMIC,S/S Exhaust,Induction etc...

Am I missing anywhere else?

Whats wrong with that one mate? my friend who is also on SXOC has just traded his 200sx for an R32.

He was happy with his SX though, did an engine swap as his had 150K mile on it, but that engine has been placed in an r32 for track days, so dont be put off by the milage, if you look on their fourm, most of the cars have been well looked after.

The right car will come along eventually. I spent a couple of months going out looking every weekend for my 106 GTi. Missed out on 3 that I would probably have bought by a matter of hours. Then found a good one. No sooner did I buy that than I spy another 2 or 3 that I could quite easily have bought as well.

Take your time, do a lot of research, and you'll end up with a few to choose from.

Andyfield is a member on here aswell and the car seems to be in very good condition. As with all things, good things comes to those who wait :p

Aint that many low mileage ones about. Most people use them as their main cars and pile on the mileage.

That one on the link above looks perfect.

There is your problem, you've put a silly mileage limit in your criteria. Even the newest 200SX's are now at least 6 years old and as a result you are looking for below average mileage cars only. There is no reason to do this - they are reliable cars. You are finding it hard to find a car for your budget and finding most you do find are overpriced becuase:

a) People didnt buy 200SX's to leave in the garage all the time
b) Low mileage cars attract ridiculous price premiums.

You'll find a nice one if you remove the 60k mileage limit. It wont blow up when it gets to 61k.

service history > mileage. they'll do 100,000+ all day long if the oils swapped every 6K or less... or manage just 20K if the oil's never dropped ;)

have to agree dont be put off by mileage, mines on 120k plus with fsh and only thing ive had to replace in the last 2 years is a starter motor which i picked up 2nd hand for 40 quid, i paid 5k for mine 2 years ago so 5k now should buy u a sub 80k miler,

All being well should be going to look at andyfields soon, looks by far the best example.

Not sure if I should be asking here but what bits should I do to it to get more power?
First mods planned would be 18"s,S/S Exhaust,Induction Kit and Dump Valve but what's recommended for power increases (I.e what mods) once I am used to it?

Cheers.

Surely running up to 280bhp on the standard engine dramatically reduces reliability and increases running costs x 10?
Obviously I don't expect it to return 50mpg on boost but how badly does it hit the economy off and on boost??

Cheers.

Forget about the dump valve, its a waste of money and makes a gay noise. Ive and along with loads of people been running 280bhp for quite a few years as a daily driver and its never been a problem although it might shorten the life a bit.

As said its FMIC, induction kit, exhaust, fuel pump, colder plugs, boost controller @1bar will get you in the region of 270-280bhp. To get further than that you will need larger injectors and a chip/ECU/piggy back ECU.

I used get 250miles out of a tank or 300 on long motorway journeys, but now Ive had the car mapped with larger injectors, I seem to be about to get about 330miles out of a tank on the motorway. IIRC its a 65litre tank.

200s are reliable beyond 280bhp on stock internals. running costs arent really increased either.

with breathing mods and a jaz chip, off-boost economy will actually improve. on-boost economy is an oxymoron. and it will suffer. :)

Thanks for that, what's the general opinion on the 200 posted above (andyfield's)?
Is it a good buy or will I be paying over the odds?
Reason I ask is I know very little about 200's and parkers say 4.5K for a car of this mileage in good condition but obviously thats a rough guide and can't factor in how much a car has been looked after.
I'm not a member of the owners club so I couldn't possibly know the cars history etc....

Cheers.

Decat/filter will probably affect off boost economy a little bit but not so much as I've ever noticed. Driving around obeying the speed limit the quoted 29mpg is realistic

Increasing overall power and then using it does drop fuel economy significantly. And whilst turbo cars are more economical than v6's off boost, boy do I notice my fuel gauge drop when caning it. Perhaps consider getting the stage 1 chip to help if you intend to run decat and high power permanently.

Reliability. I wouldnt want to say running 280bhp doesnt affect reliability, but engines running this power dont appear to suddenly become 'unreliable'. You may get a lot of posts heavily denying the potential to affect reliability, but most owners dont seen to want to test this. You always see the people not running oil coolers suddenly drop their road/pub quoted boost levels to 250 ish when they take their cars on track. Me, I'm happy running mine at 250-260 ish and leave my boost setting permanently at 1 level.

Running costs at higher power. Well, rather than take opportunity of all the 2nd hand brakes and low cost standard clutches/suspension and cheaper standard size wheels/tyres when mine needed replacing, I've gone with upgrades and pay more for pads/tyres. But I'm definitely in the camp (see recent thread) where when given access to more power, funnily enough I seem to then be faced with encountering corners at higher speeds.
