Hi all.

buying a Transporter t28 2.5TDI SWB P/Van on tuesday

just sorting the insurance now and they give me options of the 85bhp / 102bhp / 120bhp or 174bhp to choice from.

The V5 doesn't say what exactly :s the owner says its 88bhp which obviously doesn't fit. says he doesn't think its the 85bhp

if i was to put 88bhp is it really going to make a difference in a claim if it happens to be the 102?

any ways i can find out??

cheers all

What year is the van.

or even ask at the main dealers (you may need the Vin No)

If its the unreliable T5 this may help for engine size
2003-2009 years
* 1.9L 4 cylinder TDI producing 62kW / 84 bhp & 200Nm of torque.
* 1.9L 4 cylinder TDI producing 75kW / 102 bhp & 250Nm of torque.
* 2.5L 5 cylinder TDI producing 96kW / 130 bhp & 340Nm of torque.
* 2.5L 5 cylinder TDI producing 128kW / 174 bhp & 400Nm of torque.

its 2003 t4 not the t5

also trying to find out its value to make sure im not being ripped off lol 97000miles lots of history spanking new cambelt.

88hbp isnt an option on the insurance thing :(

2.5 TDI AJT; AYY inline-5 SOHC 10v 2,461 cc (150.2 cu in) 88 PS (65 kW; 87 bhp) @ 4,500 195 N·m (144 ft·lbf) @ 2,000 1998-2003

looks like its that one as it has the BLUE i after it. but 88bhp isnt an option according to them lol

It's only standard van! They want me to phone a £ a minute number if I can away with it I'd rather do it all online rather than ended up on hold for £20 :(

Not knowing much about vans, how come they have such low power outputs for the engine size? I mean my little clio has only a few bhp less than the vans talked about and I wouldnt call it fast :p

Prices for Transporters has gone up loads, however i paid £7k for an 04 plate T5 1.9TDI 104psi, fully loaded with extras! Good way to tell if its 88 or 104 is by checking if it has an intercooler on top of the engine.. If it does its 104. Try adrian flux for insurance too.. Im insured with them on my new T5, fully comp, 4 years no claims, £450.
