I'm currently a product manager. I'm searching for jobs now, and when I look around I see endless product manager roles in computing. But I'm a mechanical engineer and my speciality at the moment is ventilation, so all these tech roles sound amazing but I'm just not geared towards them.

So I was just wondering if there was somewhere where I could see names for similar job types. I don't want to pigeon hole myself as a product manager because it seems to not be very reflective of the building services industry.

I'd quite like to get out of the industry btw, but easier said than done as I've expressed in another thread.

What's the scope of your current role? You do M&E, specializing in ventilation, but is it working on construction projects for consultancies or?

I work for a supplier, who partner with a manufacturer. So my clients are almost exclusively M&E consultants so I advise the consultants, providing them a solution for their construction projects, and the company supplies them. I also garner business myself through CPD presentations, face to face meetings etc so also straddle the account manager side of things, but I do not want to be a KPI driven salesman, although I might do OK at it

AH OK, I get you. You sit between the project delivery side and manufacturer. Hmm that's an interesting one. Would you prefer to keep in the M&E space, or would you look at doing a product management role in another sector? What do you like best about your job?

Yeah I'm the technical expert, salesman, product manager, bridge/liaison etc, I do quite a few different things that all lead towards the path of increasing market share. I don't really care about being in the same space. I'm interested in tech as that seems to be where all the jobs are, but don't have any relevant experience.

What do I like...I suppose I enjoy the challenges, I'm really keen on problem solving (engineer), I like speaking to people, autonomy. It's been so long that I'm sort of lost in it!
