as in the title, i am on AOL silver (512kbs) and want to get the 8 Meg service, How do i find the maximum my line will allow?

regards

Get some line stats and you can find out if you fall into the suitability level for 8meg. However no one ever gets 8meg, best you can expect is about 6meg down.

Erm..

If you sync at 8064, you'll get a throughput of ~7.2mbit/second. 'no one ever gets 8meg' is rubbish - people living close enough to the exchange will and do get it.

He probably means contention - although some of my m8's on bulldog are connected @ 8mbit, they only get 6mbit from a 100mbit server - simply because they are paying for a contended service.

There is that but Olly said it himself.

Since when does 7.2 = 8??? :p you never actually get 8mbit. If you live ontop of the exchange you still only get up to 95% at best.
