Mare e Monte another italian restaurant in Kings Walk, more "romantic" if that's your bag.

I like italian food. :)

If you want something more expensive -Colleys Supper Rooms in Reading (by palmer park) The French Horn or the Mill at Swallowfield should do you nicely! ;)

You can rely on this being an excellent meal. Depending on where you are though, Bray in Berkshire hosts three michelin starred restaurants, one of those (the fat duck) having held the title as the world's best restaurant a couple of years in a row.

The London Brasserie is expensive but the food is ok but not brilliant.

Dolcha Vita is good and a favourite.
Zero Degrees is very good food and is a microbrewery too - beer is great :)

The Supper rooms is a Victorian restaurant, complete down to the single sitting for the night because IIRC there's something like 7-9 courses - true victorian dining but you will need to book in advance.

Pretty much all been mentioned.

Another thumbs up for Dolce Vita. Been going there for years it is a little gem.

London Street Brasserie is also good, a good mate of mine is head waiter there.

L'Ortolan is very very pricey but I have heard good things.

Not been mentioned yet but http://www.lsq2.co.uk/ is very good. Main restaurant up by the footy stadium but they have a brasserie in the Oracle.

I have also had a couple of good meals at http://www.theforburyhotel.co.uk/ but not been there for a few years.

Loads of good restaurants in Reading! :)

I went there years ago and still remember the meal. The whole experience was great.
Went to the Waterside in Bray a couple of years ago for Sunday lunch. Amazingly expensive but the food, service and ambiance were wonderful.

For Indian food I'd recommend The Royal Tandoori in Reading. It's consistently been superb food. The Gulshan has become too variable now and the quality has dropped. Both aren't super expensive but good food.

As said before The Fat Duck is both super expensive and you'll need to book into the waiting list.

Yeah good beer and good as a bar, the food isn't bad but wasn't a fan of the restaurant "setting" and ambience if you know what I mean. Can't knock it as a bar though.

A bit loud for a restaurant.

The Ivy if you want fine Indian dinning at Sonning, The French Horn for more traditional fine dinning, also in Sonning. If you want to go a little further there's Heston Blumenthals The Fat duck & Hinds Head in Bray.

In Reading, London Street Brasserie is Ok although not what I'd call "fine" dinning, Cerise restaurant at Forbury is (was, I haven't been for a while) good, L'ortolan although not in the middle of Reading (it's Shinfield) is really good proper fine dinning for a special occasionl.
