HI,

Recently purchased a FUJI Finepix S5700 to replace my old Olympus mini and i'm having problems getting the right setting (s) for use in Museums ?

I regularly visit Air Museums like Duxford/Hendon in UK and have tried all the settings except the manual P A S & M modes and take several pictures of the same subject in SP1 (museum), AUTO, N, N + flash and 'camera shake'.

Mostly the pictures are ok but in low light theres very bad speckling (ISO issue I guess?) and I often get blurrring (this may be me ?) so i'm thinking I better try the manual settings after all!

Can anyone offer a decent setting to try for low light areas ?

I've attached a link to mediafire of an example image to give some idea of my problem.

Thanks,

Yeah, its just noise from using a high ISO. The S5700 doesn't have active IS so relies on upping the ISO in order to keep the shutter speed fast enough to minimise the camera shake.

Best option would be to get a tripod or monopod and keep the ISO low and the shutter speed slow enough to get decent exposure in those low light situations. Open the aperture as much as possible too.

Also there is what looks like lens flare, maybe a hood would also be a sound investment to enrich your photos.

Cheers guys that was quick! Thought maybe a tripod was the way to go but its such a pain setting up each time - just wanted a point and shoot capability really.

Guess this cameras not suited to that? I use a UV filter would that make any difference?

the S5700 isn't the best camera in low light, but obviously a tripod will help with blur, and if you keep the iso down then that will help with the speckles. post processing can bring out the highlights and make it look better!

1 lose the filter.
2 buy a monopod - not as bulky as a tripod and quick to use and put away again.
