Hey folks,

Just upgraded the flagging iPad 3 to an Air 2 and I'm find the unlock process to be unnecessarily long. At the minute, if I pick the iPad up and the screen is both locked and asleep I have to press the home button to wake it up, then leave me finger there to unlock it, then press the home button again to get to the apps screen.

Is this really all necessary? Can't I just hold my finger there and have it all that in one go like I do on my phone? My phone is Android, hence why I'm not familiar with this process on iOS.

Ta.

Thanks guys. Still need to press the home button to wake, but that's much better.

A bugbear of mine it that when you switch a device on, a thumbprint isn't enough, it needs a password/passcode first time round...

Surely a fingerprint is as good as it can get so why the password?

I'm sure with my iPad, I press the home button to wake and then it automatically unlocks after a second in just one action.

Re the password at startup, isn't this down to American law that allows Police to require you to submit physical evidence, but not something committed to memory?
Same reason that after so many days, even a powered on device sometimes prompts for the password.

Exactly, you need to press. Then hold for a second.

I'm used to just touching the sensor on my phone... It's near instantaneous.

It's so that you can power your device off if you're travelling through security / talking to police and can't be forced to unlock it.

Yup, if you think about it a fingerprint reader is really insecure because you can be easily forced to unlock something, you can't as easily force a pin code out of some one.

yep, its much easier to chop someones thumb off that to get them to say 4 numbers :D
