Finished first build but I have one question.

Everything went pretty smoothly during my first build. The one thing that's nagging me slightly though is, I had to rotate the heatsink slightly to get the correct alignment. Will this effect the thermal paste (T.I.M.) application or will it just spread it out more and cause no harm?

Aslong as the heatsink is covering the whole of the cpu and the heatsink is level as opposed to tilted to one side, it should be fine. Do not run any burn tests (stress tests for the cpu which heat it up massively by putting the cpu under strain). Let the cpu bed in for a few minutes at least before putting it under any strain. Find the cpu temperatures (real temp is a good program for this), if they are within normal tolerances (I don't know what cpu you have so cannot say) then you should be ok to start running a few burn tests to see how well your tim and heatsink combo is performing.

Good luck.

I was really obsessive with making sure the heatsink was installed properly, I spent hours reading about the correct way to apply TIM to a HDT cooler. So I'm pretty confident that I haven't misaligned it but you can never be too sure when you lack knowledge.

Thanks for the program recommendation and I planned on letting it run for a while without stressing the CPU (Athlon II 635 2.90Ghz) to much so the TIM can cure.

I don't think I should have any problems, I've double, triple and quadruple checked ever connection, I left a cover over the PC to prevent any dust build up, I even sing it a lullaby before I put it in it's cradle to go into sleep mode... well not really but I am pretty obsessive about doing everything in the best possible way.

dont worry, as w3bbo says, give it a bit of time to bed in again before stressing it.

good to see you posting back here again btw W3bbo :)
