ok, so i use FF, and i love it. but its memory handling is frankly crappy. when i use a dozen or so tabs, i understand it gobbling ram... LOTS of ram. but WHY WHY WHY WONT IT GIVE IT ME BACK WHEN I CLOSE THE TABS :mad::mad:

i mean its down to one window, no tabs, and a quarter of a gig of ram used. they should have sorted this crap by now.

Maybe some firefox extensions or add-on such as Java could have caused this? Worth disabling all extensions and see if it is improved.

Fresh install of Firefox, no extensions, no cruft from an old profile? Latest stable version? Tried safe mode?

firefox for me is currently using 33mb ram with 4 tabs open, definately something wrong with yours somewhere

check what addons your using
what additonal programs like flash, shockwave, java etc have you installed?
what version of firefox is it?

i have java and what ever player it is that lets me use youtube occasionally but thats it. FF v 3.03

try removing java (think its flash player that youtube uses) i sometimes find botched java installs where it uses 100s of mb of ram

Other than that....i have no idea

FF 3.0.3 - 17 tabs open, 105mb
Addons:
British English Dictionary
Exif Viewer
Flashgot
IE Tab

So I dont know if that's normal or what, but FF runs smooth
