I'm sitting at 35 tabs in 2 windows, and using 284MB. The killer for me is Cacti refreshing images twelve times an hour.
As mr.sly suggests, what are you doing in Firefox? A lot of memory usage issues are either addons that are coded badly or plugins which leak, like Flash.
The difference is barely noticeable for me (running 2.0.160.0), and when you factor in the pain of ads it's a win for Firefox. Either are better than IE (or Opera) though...

it's going to be difficult to go back to firefox now
