Hi guys,

Since upgrading to v3.5.1 I'm regularly getting the 'firefox is already running' message if I close ff and then try to run another instance of it. Atm, I've been going into task manager and ending the process manually which is starting to get a bit tiresome now...

I've had a quick google and it seems that are a lot of sufferers out there, but every page I looked at had a different solution

Before I start editing registries and deleting files etc, is there any definitive fix going around on here that works?

Cheers

Strangely enough I used to get this all the time, but upon upgrading to 3.5.1 I no longer get it at all...

You wouldn't happen to use foxytunes would you? As that's the only extension I've removed recently and it was around the time I upgraded to 3.5.1, so that might be the cause?

Nope, not using foxytunes.

I'm currently only using: adblock plus, downloadthemall!, ff companion for ebay, noscript, oldbar and a skype plugin.

SW.

I get the same (on 3.5.1) - it just seems to take a couple of seconds to actually shut down the process even though the UI disappears straight away. I am running foxytunes, might try it without it. Thanks!

How long do you typically leave it before reaching for Task Manager? There are quite a few SQLite things that get done at close that can add up.

I've got this too since installing 3.5.1. Even if left for 2hrs+, the process never quits; it just sits there using 60MB of memory and loads up both cores of my E8400 to 50% each. The only solution is to manually quit the process.

I've tried deleting my profile but that didn't work. The only thing that's really changed is I installed Microsoft Security Essentials beta around the same time and I notice there's an extension and an addon I don't recall seeing before:

Microsoft.net Framework Assistant 1.1
Windows Presentation Foundation 3.5.30729.4918

The only other extension I use is NoScript.

edit:
Forgot to mention another annoyance is that hitting Reload or F5 makes the current page go into a never ending "Waiting for....." status. Using the address bar or a direct link to same page and it instantly loads up

My ff process seems to always sit at around the 60mb when i go into task manager... maybe it's because we both have the same cpu :D

I haven't checked cpu usage, but i will the next time it happens!

IIRC, that ms.net framework assistant extension has been present on my system for quite a while.

Problematic Firefox extensions, including Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant, can cause the problem, which can be resolved by disabling or uninstalling the extension.

Since disabling that extension I've not encountered the hang on exit problem. Too early to say whether it fixed it permanently though - will report back :)

Since upgrading to 3.5.2, I haven't (touch wood!) encountered the problem...

And that's with the .NET extension enabled :)

FFox always seems to have done that for me no matter what version. This has been on different computers and different builds etc. Just thought I was trying to close and reopen it too quickly.

I've had same problem since 3.5.1 and again last night when it aotuo updated to 3.5.2 ... i just tend to download the new install, run it, install it, it keeps all my settings/add-ons and off it goes ... bit annoying, but only takes 60 secs to download and install ... using 7 x64 (rc 7100)
