firefox 3 forever "stops responding"

i only recently started to get this problem but i literally can't use ff for 5 mins before it stops responding and i have to restart it. Very annoying :mad:

any suggestions please?

It occasionally happens to me and I simply shut it down using Windows Task Manager but I know what you mean about it being annoying.

Tried uninstalling and downloading the latest version from the site? 'tis what I would do.

New profile, safe mode, look at what extensions you're running, make sure you've got the latest version.

Reinstalling is virtually pointless because it won't touch your profile.

It does if you tick the box that says remove firefox personal data on the uninstall menu.

Yeah, but then your bookmarks, history, settings all vanish unless you've backed them up (in which case you could have saved the hassle and just done it with the profile manager or a file browser window)...

As this has only just started happening, do you have auto-updates enabled ?

If so, then it could be the new version that's at fault.

If not, then it's likely something in your profile is somehow corrupt. As tolien suggests, try a new profile (ie. start with -p command-line switch, and create a new profile).

Try the new version 3.0.7 which as just been released, hopefully that may fix your problem(s) as it fixes several stability issues.

you foxmarks to upload your bookmarks, then wipe everything off, run ccleaner and then install 3.07 and download your bookmarks. then slowly one by one add your 'addons' if all is working

There is no need to do a complete wipe of everything, as using a clean profile is equivalent to using a fresh install of Firefox (ie. there will be no bookmarks, history, extensions, etc.)

but still i would uninstall anyway just to rule that out

Are you using siteas which are heavy on Flash or Java? Try updating both.

this is why i stopped using firefox 4 years ago and switched to opera...firefox sucks

what! opera is chuff, don't they have like 0.8% of the market that says something... firefox is the fastest web browser going with great addon's and a good rep, it's changed a lot in 4 years too! for the better.

what addons are you using?
what security software (all) are you using

could be constantly scanning things and killing performance.
