Firefox 5 beta is out!

The main thing is css animations, plus :

Added support for switching Firefox development channels
The Do-Not-Track header preference has been moved to increase discoverability
Improved canvas, JavaScript, memory, and networking performance
Improved standards support for HTML5, XHR, MathML, SMIL, and canvas
Improved spell checking for some locales
Improved desktop environment integration for Linux users

and a long, long list of bugs http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/5.0beta/releasenotes/buglist.html

Scary isn't it. I started using Firefox to get away from IE bugs, maybe I should move on again

Take that attitude any you'll be switching every piece of software you ever use on an almost daily basis. Security bugs in ff are patched in a couple days, security bugs in ie marked as critical can be withheld from release for 28 days. Mozilla just puts bug lists where people can find them and bundles performance/glitch patches together.

Cool! but why bother with beta unless you wanna fix things lol

You can get Firefox 6 on a nightly build...

Of course...but the Firefox betas have been pretty stable for me, and this marks the new fast release schedule that Mozilla have decided to undertake.
I have aurora installed too - but this is my default/main browser now

If 5 BETA is disabling extensions it "thinks" are not compatible simply add a new Boolean in about:config with a false value:

Code:
extensions.checkCompatibility.5.0

Everything working fine for me.

I've personally just been running Aurora, stability has been fine, no crashes or issues. Aurora should be moved to the Firefox 6 builds sometime next week.

But what advantage does that have?

Well we should see features coming in to our hands sooner, as before the development cycle was around 1 year.

The other advantage is the general population keeps seeing chrome going up in versions quickly where as firefox was staying at ver 3 for nearly a year, so they assumed it was better.

So to take some marketing thunder back from chrome, Mozilla are going to try to emulate it, to make it at least 'seem' like developement is just as fast as with chrome.

A bit of marketing mixed with the benefit of actually getting smaller features in to our hands sooner.

I think its a good thing.

Ver 5 is due out in June!
