I was feeling brave so installed FF6 beta ,infact made this thread it seems ok so far.

Version 6.0’s major new feature is the Permissions Manager, accessible by typing about:permissions into the Address bar. This allows you to set permissions regarding cookies, passwords, pop-up windows, offline storage and your location for individual websites you’ve previously visited, allowing you to grant more access to trusted sites without having to open yourself up to others in the process.

Version 6.0 also sees a raft of support for more HTML5 and CSS3 features, an improved about:memory dialog that allows you to manually rein in Firefox’s ever-increasing memory demands. As with the last two releases, performance is improved while developers also get to play with a “scratchpad” that allows live testing of Javascript code - access it from the Developers sub-menu or by hitting [Shift] + [F4].

Not all add-ons will work with this release (they’ll be automatically disabled during the update process), and because it’s an unfinished version, we recommend you back up your existing Firefox settings using a tool like MozBackup before installing it over the top of your existing stable installation.

I wonder how long it'll be before they include "Doesn't constantly crash for no apparent reason" in the list of features?

firefox 5 was no different than firefox 4, looks like firefox is just releasing new version to try and catch up with IE verison numbering.

Since firefox 5 my firefox does not stop crashing at work. Nearly every single time it loads flash the whole firefox freezes, i have tried removing all addons. Makes no difference. I am so close to changing browses. But not happy about it :(

Sounds like a problem with the flash plugin. If you go to about:plugins what version have you got for Shockwave flash?

10.3.181.34 is the latest.

I get some slight differences in font rendering. Which is ******* excellent, I now have to test in FF3.6, 4.0 and 5.0 just to make sure it's selecting things properly and rendering things right.

Never thought I'd see the day when I had to build for Opera, Safari and Chrome, then fix for Firefox, but that's what has been happening.

One of the reasons why they are accelrating the version numbering is because of Google chrome.

1. Chrome being version 12 or 13 etc... gives the impression that it is ahead of firefox as it is only on 4 or 5 etc......

2. They are doing updates in smaller bits rather than taking a whole year to implement new features, so in this sense itsa very good thing.

We get new features in our browser every 6 weeks rather than have to wait a year for it.

Just an update on my FF6 beta 1,so far not had a single crash yet, think I'll stay with it,I do think its faster then FF5 plus most of my extensions work so nice bonus too :).

I did notice Firefox 7 alpha was also available for download but I'm not going to risk an alpha version.

I can't afford to be a version out of date, I will update as soon as I am home!

Firefox crashing? That's never happened on my work pc (this one) or my main rig in the house.
I can't stand IE, and I feel Firefox is better than Chrome. It's always been solid for me!
I don't understand why Mozilla feel the need to catch up with Chrome / IE in terms of version numbering... anyone with a little bit of know how will understand that they mean nothing in relation to each other.

extensions.checkCompatibility.6.0 to false to force extensions to work :)

All of mine are AOK :D

I think that the problem is that a lot of people don't have that little bit of know how. They get told by someone to switch from IE and try out firefox/chrome and they see that chrome has more numbers so they go with that.

Of course if i'm wrong and that isn't the case, then I have no idea why firefox is doing this.

Aurora is supposed to be memory and performance improvements on FF,I would try it but not sure if my extensions will work if any.
