Firefox 6 released into beta channel...

Firefox release schedule hotting up quickly. Firefox 6 is in the beta channel now, scheduled for an earlyish August launch....

They just changed how they number their versions. Big numbers are better apparently. Silly really as it leads you to believe there are considerable changes. Imagine if Microsoft did it for Windows.

possibly but there are some serious changes...6 looks like it might have the aggressive garbage collection that reduces memory useage considerably and the new javascript engine. They are still behind Chrome though, version 14 of that is in beta. 14 versions in something like 3.5 years

this new one should just be v5.0.0.0.3

but v6 does sound much better

I run V6 as my main browser, and Aurora as a "testing" browser. Aurora is up to 7a2 last time I looked...

running 6.0 beta here and it seems slighty faster but then again the ssd could be helping out there

Yeah... I'm pretty sure those were named after the year of release..
