Firefox Bookmarks Acting Strangely

As of a few days ago, I haven't been able to bookmark anything in firefox.
Every time I click "Bookmark this page" the dialog box comes up as usual, but when I click the 'OK' button, nothing happens, the dialog box stays where it is, and the bookmark isn't saved.

If I use the drop-down menu and select a folder to save it in, even if it's the root folder, the bookmark is saved without anything in the description field, thus showing up as blank on the list of bookmarks, so then I have to go back and edit it.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to fix it?

I just tried installing the new version (2.0, i think I was still on RC2), and it didn't fix anything.
I don't think it's related to any extensions, because I haven't installed any recently, but I'll check those.

New profile/safe mode?
Reinstalling or installing another version is largely pointless (as far as trying to fix a problem goes at least), unless it's a specific bug that's fixed in that version.

Running it in safe mode, and only disabling the add-ons fixes it, but running it in normal mode, and manually disabling the add-ons has no effect.

Creating a new profile fixes it, but that way I lose all the settings, add-ons, skins and the like.
Is there a way around this?

[EDIT:]
Resetting the toolbars, etc. from safe mode seemed to work fine, but I'm not quite sure what was actually causing the problem.

Mods, feel free to close.
