basiclaly i have 3 places that i use firefox for i got foxmarks to sync my latest bookmarks between the 3. At my dads house this weekend and i start firefox, it says that something has gone wrong with firefox and that sall the bookmarks have gone so it advised not to sync the foxmarks as they might all disappear at both local and remote location. So i stopped it and they had all gone. So i decided to sync thinking it will ask if i wanted to over write local or remote, but it didn't and it overwrite the remote foxmarks leaving me with none. Now what sucks is i need my bookmarks and wont be at other pc until sunday night, and more importantly i need to make bookmarks now and have it so that they are added to the computers that have all the bookmakrs sitll there, rather then placing them.

So is it possible to save bookmarks on this pc, and then just copy the files and add them to myother pcs ones without over writting them?

Also is it possible to get the delted ones from foxmarks back?

Thanks

Firefox bookmarks are held in a file called "bookmarks.html" which can be found in
C:\Documents and Settings\username\
Application data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xx11xxxx.default\

I'm 99.9% sure all you need to do is copy that file over to the other pc.

What I normally do is just copy the entire contents of the profile folder over when backing up though.

well i have found that file, and also a backup folder for the bookmarks but they were only of the old bookmarks and when i tried putting the old ones back it still doesn't work.

yes sorry I thought that's what you wanted. I must have misunderstood what you wanted to do. I don't think there is a separate file for each bookmark that you can copy across. It's all or nothing AFAIK. Or add to the bookmarks.html file manually.

bum that sucks, can't do any work then until sunday night.

anyone know of a way to make foxmakrs add any new bookmakrs to the list rather then completely replace all the ones?

Short of manually editing the bookmarks.html file, I doubt there's anything that can insert just new bookmarks. That said, it should just be a copy and paste affair to add to the file.

Why do they go in the first place?? Is it a big in Firefox? Surely they would have sorted it out by now?

Nine times out of ten they aren't actually gone (and the other once, there's normally a backup), and the developers can't bank on how an extension will work.
SQLite bookmarks/history/downloads/form history should help a bit. Flat files aren't great for storing that sort of data and expecting it to stick.
