about:cache in the URL bar and see what yours says for entries.

Mine is

Disk cache device

Number of entries: 3433
Maximum storage size: 102400 KiB (100MB) (changed just now from 50MB)
Storage in use: 51199 KiB

The number of entries in Firefox is limited to a maximum of 8192 (and has been for a long time) and it's extremely unlikely anyone will ever reach this figure with the default cache size of 50MB because even a small youtube video will consume that so it would make sense to increase the cache size a little no so the max entry limit can be utilised more effectively?

In fact the default cache size should be increased given today's content available on the net but first the 8192 entry limit needs to also be increased.

I've read both bugzilla articles on the above and it's been running since the early 2000s :p

If you read the bug, you'd notice it was attempted the other day and made things slower. The cache really needs to (and will) be reimplemented.

Perhaps there's more than one bugzilla report? I only saw various discussions on how it's no longer 2004 and that the cache should be increased after the 8192 entry limit is sorted first!

Hmm yes I realised this the other day after some discussion and since then am only using pipelining set to enabled (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_pipelining) as it's disabled by default in about:config.

Also uimenudelay to 50ms instead of 300 to speed up right click and bookmark sub-menus!

It was disabled afterwards though because at the time there were still a lot of 1.0 webservers in action?

Hmm!

It was disabled because it broke a load of online banking sites, IIRC.

If it breaks something, you at least know what to revert to fix it. Using some extension that flips a load of options and doesn't reset them when you uninstall it could leave you with a busted profile.
