some reason firefox has decided to malfunction and freeze every 5/10 minutes for no reason, i can have 1 tab, 15 tabs, leave it, be using it forever, it will eventually randomly just completely freeze and not let me do anything except close it by using windows task manager.

i have tried uninstalling but the problem still is there.

after it freezes when viewing it on the process tab in task manager it will keep ticking up every refresh, so it will be say 30,000k, then 30.500, 31,000, 32,000, i waited to see if it would eventually unfreeze but it didn't so stopped at 250,000k, but then next time i restarted windows i get a few error messages with windows.

i have done a virus scan with nod32 which did find something with ff but nothing has changed. also have done spyware scan, usual stuff but nothing major.

so any help? this has only been going on for about a week now though last 2 days it now happens every 5/10 minutes unlike before just once a day.

i am at a differnt house now so can't try ff3 until sunday but am trying it here and liking it so far, big green back button is off putting but i assume easily changable.

this profile thing confuses me, is it like a login thing where ican change the profile im using, so new bookmarks/extension etc? i have backed mine up here and so far is fine but just wondering what exactly a profile is. if it is as i have asked is ther ea way to get it to ask evrytime i start up which profile i want to use and even better have a password for it? i ask as where i am atm my family uses ff which means, history, login details, bookmarks are all shared and would be nice to have them kept seperate.

You can't set a password to access them (AFAIK), but you can make it ask - add "-P" to the end of the shortcut.

Your profile stores your history, cookies, bookmarks, extensions etc.
