Hey guys,

I left my machine on overnight last night with just Outlook and Firefox running and when I looked this morning my temps (cpu/case) were a little bit higher than I would have expected? The room was cold and the machine had been idle for the best part of 9hrs...

I had a look at the Task Manager and found:

Surely that's not right for Firefox is it? I had one instance running with two tabs inside it? They were displaying two static info pages from the TDA (teaching website) so it's not as though they had Flash apps running or anything?

As soon as I closed them, the memory usage dropped out? I think it was up to about 1.5GB

I'm using the latest version of FF.

Any ideas? I'm back to using Opera and Safari atm.

Cheers,

SW.

Firefox 2 you mean by latest yeah? Not the latest beta of FF3?

I'm not that surprised really, I hardly use FF now because of several issues such as RAM. I would see in Task Manager the mem usage for the FF instance going up and up. If you left it overnight that wouldn't really surprise me.

Good thing this all happened though! You've gone back to using Opera. :p

Yeah, still on version 2.

I'm not alone then... I've noticed with the latest couple of updates that performance has gone right down? It appears to be getting more resource-hungry in general?

I've been using FF since v1.0 (those were the days :p), and I've really started to notice a difference of late. I thought it was just me :(

One of the Key Features of FF3 (which is nearing a first release candidate) is to make it use less memory. Early reviews reflect it will use less than Opera, Safari etc.

Mem usage is a real issue in FF2

Couldn't really say I barely use it. Just for checking webpages for my Uni project. :D

Been using FF since 0.x days. :p

I have been bemoaning the memory problems with FF for ages, although now I've got a machine with 4gb of ram it's no longer a problem. No, not because I've got all that ram, but it's stopped hogging as much memory . It seems to level out at 150Mb without increasing now, no matter how many tabs.

(More of an Opera fan tbh, I just wish it would support xpi rather than the crap widgets)
