Firefox Issues

Firefox has been a dream for the past 2.5 years on my PC. The 2.0.6 update came out and firefox prompted me to install it. I did.

Ever since I get page cannot be displayed. I have tried removing it and re-installing it but no joy

IE7 is working fine btw.

Make sure theFirefox directory is gone when you have uninstalled it,also run CCleaner,try a reboot after that then fresh install of Firefox.

Uninstalling won't do a lot of good - try a new profile.

I've decicded to dig this post out of the archive so to speak.

I never managed to get firefox up and running, removed it and every little trace of it, files, folders etc and still page cannot be displayed. Not sure what try a new profile means?

IE7 updated yesterday and now that also is saying page cannot be displayed.

I have no working browser now

Any idea's whats up?

He means making a new profile, it's probably something in the profile that's corrupt and not Firefox itself. By changing the profile you remove the problem. You can reinstall Firefox all day if the profile is knackered, it simply won't work until you change to another one or delete the profile and force it to make a new one.

Thats my understanding of it - I'm no expert though!

Quite - that's why I meant to link (though the page I did link to did have a link the Mozillazine KB) to a set of instructions

Any firewalls or antivirus? Tried disabling them?

Yes disabled them etc.

After installing the 2.0.0.6 firefox update it no longer worked. Now a hotfix for IE7 has been installed that also does not work.

Weird eh??

Sounds more and more like a firewall gone wonky somewhere.

uninstall & then install an earlier version of firefox & it should work, then upgrade to latest version, altho each update seems to be more problematic for me so I am not running the latest version myself

Ok, I can get into my router stats page (192.168.1.254) on IE7 but no web pages will load.

Same with Firefox.

I've disabled the firewall on the router and the windows one is turned off. Turned kaspersky off and still won't load pages up.

All the other computers in the house work fine.

The router one isn't important, but try uninstalling Kaspersky. It wouldn't be unheard-of for it to still be running even if it's disabled.

I'll try booting up in safe mode with networking enabled and see what happens.

Yes both are working fine in safe mode.

I've removed kaspersky now and it's still not loading pages up in normal mode.

It turned out to be kaspersky even though I had removed it, there was still a process running!!

I've tried to do a full system scan in adaware and it keeps hanging on this path C:\Windows\$Ntuninstall\KB905915$

Any idea's why?
