Hi all

I've had this for a long while now, but the new Anandtech website has just tipped me over the edge! When there are pictures or animated elements on a web page, Firefox scrolls past them very very slowly and in a jerky fashion. Checking task manager, one core is being utilised 100% when this happens. I've Googled the problem and I can see a lot of people complaining about the problem, but no one providing a fix.

Has anyone got any idea what the problem is, and how to fix it?

Many thanks

I get this sometimes aswell and i've noticed that it happens when I first open firefox and it starts my HDD going crazy. Once the HDD activity stops, the scrolling goes back to normal.

No idea what causes it though :/

make sure you have the latest version of ff for a start.

then, try typing 'about:config' into the address bar.

then search for browser.sessionstore.interval and change the value to a much higher number.

i think the problem might be related to firefox taking 'snapshots' every x number of seconds so that it can restore itself on the pages/tabs you were view if there's a crash.

I already have the latest version of ff.

What number would you suggest setting the above to? I just checked and its set to 10000 already.

Doesnt seem to have made any difference. I just opened ff again after leaving it closed for 5-10 mins while i was afk and straight away my hdd starts going and the scrolling was jerky again.

Does it happen it any other browser? If so, reinstall graphic drivers.

Hi

If you haven't already tried this, have a look in FF under Tools/Options/General/Browsing and untick auto and smooth scrolling (you may need to restart FF for the changes to take affect).

Also, if you have a wheel on you mouse, go to Control Panel/Mouse/Wheel and set the number of scroll lines to 4 or whatever you prefer.

Hope this helps.
