This is a wierd one, I get it probably twice a month, Im running Firefox on my laptop and nothing else, usually the cpu usage sits at around 3% but on these wierd occasions it uses around 60-100% usuage on both cores and stays like it for ages.

I have checked the task manager and theres nothing else running, its saying all cpu usage is by Firefox, tried clearing my cache, stopping antivirus and done a virus scan / spyware scan.

Anyone got any suggestions, when its gets in this mood it just sorts itself out but it takes a while, the laptop spec is more than capable 1.73ghz Core Duo and 2gb ram and Vista Premium.

Edit: its worth pointing out as well its defantly using all the power and not a mistake by task manager, as when it does the laptop gets really unresponsive and it pumps heat out the air vents.

I get 90% usage out of my 3500+ cpu when i go on my clans site which is chock heavy with scrolling lists and animations etc.

Used to like firefox cos it was better than ie in memory and cpu usage. But now its just getting really bad with a few tabs open im using 89mb of ram and on the heavy made up sites high cpu usage.

Might be the time to try a diff browser.

Yeah you might be right, as soon as I posted this thread it stopped and returned to normal, so I guess it was like it for 25minutes in total.

I had 5 tabs open and nothing too strenuous, Yahoo Mail, Ebay, 2x OCUK and a search page, what browser do you use, im guessing IE is as cack as it always was :p

Just close FF or Iexplorer when unused?
On desktops this tbh doesn't matter so much, but on lappy's yeah shame of the battery life, would last longer if cpu is idle...
