Firefox making all of the PC sluggish

Since yesterday while browsing on Firefox after a certain amount of time, or when I load certain websites the whole of my PC becomes extremely laggy, I look into the process manager and it says 0% CPU Usage on firefox, yet the whole of my PC goes totally unresponsive, sometimes it takes upto 5 mins even for me to close down firefox, and I have to end the process to make my PC run fine again, i've tried reinstalling, and then I reinstalled and deleted the Mozilla Firefox folder in Program Files, but neither helped, I have no idea what the problem may be so if anyone can offer any help that'd be great, Many Thanks :)
 
I have 2 gig of RAM, on the Vista partition Firefox works fine, it's just on the XP partition and it just started happening recently
 
How much RAM is the Firefox.exe taking up?

Have you tried out Safe Mode? Give that a go and see if Firefox runs faster. If it does it might be your extensions/themes or possibly your profile.
 
Uh no more than usual, and it's still doing it in Safe Mode :( I thought it was fine in Safe Mode but it's just started the moment I was typing this message, perhaps it's being triggered by something then? :p any help will be appreciated, Many Thanks :)
 
Try making a new profile? Unless Safe mode does that. Don't think it does, but tolien would know most likely.

So make a new profile BUT don't delete your current one.

You think right - provided it's Fx safe mode, rather than Windows (which won't do anything). OP, it was the former you tried, right?

If you care, you could copy things into the new profile till it breaks.

Cheers tolien. I did mean the FF safe mode. Obivously Windows safe mode would do bog all with a Firefox profile. :)
