Firefox pauses for 20-40 seconds sometimes - any ideas?

I've had a problem with Firefox that's only really started to happen in the past couple of months. Basically if I click on a link to go somewhere (usually a new site), occasionally Firefox will pause for anywhere between 20-40 seconds (maybe longer).

During this time you can't do anything in Firefox, so it appears like it's hung, although usually that spinning "I'm thinking" cursor comes up. But eventually it springs into life again. It seems to happen at random, but does anyone know what this could be?

Just in case it's of use i'm running a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo. And Firefox is version 2.0.0.8

Click on desktop.

Press APPLE+SHIFT+U.

Go to Disk Utility.

Click your Main Boot Drive (Macintosh HD).

Go to the "Repair" tab, and click "Repair Disk Permissions".

Wait..

Reboot, and check Firefox

Same, only in firefox, very annoying. Seems to happen when I open multiple tabs up at once
