After moving from Chrome to Firefox I've noticed that startup times for the browser and around 10 seconds compared to Chromes instant startup.

I'm running the standard version of Firefox from the Mozilla site with no addons or extensions.

Anyone know anything that could be causing this ?

Any info is appreciated :)

Check Task Manager - is Firefox.exe running after you close Firefox, say about 5 seconds later? If so, try ending the task and see how Firefox performs.

Firefox is always a bit slow to lumber into action, around 10 secs isn't unusual in my experience. It seems as quick as the other browsers once it's up and running however.

Also, don't forget that Chrome processes carry on running in the background when you "close" it, unless you exit using the menu or disable "continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed" in the advanced settings - this might account for its apparent "instant" startup, apart from the first launch after booting.

Is that on an SSD? Firefox is instant for me or if it's a cold boot then 1-2 seconds at most... That's with 16 odd extensions installed too.

Yep, Corsair Neutron GTX 480GB, After reading around the latest updates to Firefox seem to have slowed it down some.

Very strange!

Only issue I've had with the latest version is that sometimes on startup "plugin container" will crash and I need to reload Firefox.

I think it has something to do with that tabs I have pinned, one of them has a plugin that crashes occasionally on startup.... Maybe Spotify :S

Try the portable Firefox from portableapps site and compare that with your current install, though install it on your HDD and not necessarily on a USB stick.
Failing that, you could try resetting Firefox to default under the Help > Troubleshooting Information menu. There's usually a Reset Firefox button.
Most apps these days have a portable version in one form or another, so very little interference with Windows.
