Firefox reset to default - help restoring

Had a strange problem this morning when I did my weekly cleaning session and emptied the Recycle Bin. Amongst other things, Firefox decided that it would reset itself back to default. So I naturally panicked, thinking all my bookmarks would also have been lost, having neglected to back them up in my usual weekly housekeeping process for a while, before finding them in the bookmarkbackups folder.

So that's a relief, but I was wondering if Firefox also backed up the profile for how I've made Firefox handle; the configuration of the toolbars, the settings I've specified in Options, etc.

Is there a configuration file somewhere I can use to restore everything back to 'normal' or do I have to go through the process all over again? And in future, is there anything I could do to automatically back up such a file for future use?

It doesn't back them up, but they're probably there - if Firefox has gone back to the defaults, the most likely cause is that it's created a new profile.
If that's the case, your settings are probably in the same profile as the bookmark backups.
