Firefox slow to load Google

SOLVED BELOW!



It seems a very obvious thing that when I load up Firefox, trying to open Google as the default homepage, or click on a link to it, or typing it in as a search, is slow.

Indeed while that is happening, I can click off to any other page/shortcut and get there immediately, but then trying to go back to google... slow...

Cleared browser history. Disabled the one plugin I had (adblocker). No difference.


Google doing it on purpose do you think?

ps: Youtube kind of acts the same too.

Just tried it. 30s for google homepage to appear. Reproducable. Virtually every time.

Other pages instant. If I then try google.co.uk say just minute or so later (on Firefox even after reopening it), instant.

SOLVED IT

Worked it out.

I have a RainMeter display on my desktop showing me my ping time. This was pinging 8.8.8.8 (google DNS server). Changed it to instead ping bbc.co.uk, and now google pages load immediated.
