Hi all.

I have reinstalled Windows today and decided to try out Firefox Thunderbird instead of Outlook Express for my emails.
I have followed many guides on the internet to set it up with gmail, but I am still having problems.
The first thing I notice is Thunderbird does not seem to be asking for a user and pass at all.
In the "Server Settings" I see it asks if I want to use secure connection, the options are "Never" (which is selected), "TLS" and "SSL" - which one does Gmail need?

When I click "Get Mail" in the left bottom corner it says "connected to pop.gmail.com..." and stays like that for a while, then nothing else happeneds...

Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure what the problem is, but have you thought of getting Thunderbird 2.0 RC1 - i think it was released today or yesterday and is supposed to include easy integration with GMAIL - I'll find a link and post back in a mo.

That would be good, thanks.

This is the error I am now getting when I try to send mail.

I just installed the new Thunderbird and it done it all for me :D
Thanks for the help though, you are right, it does need SSL which wasn't on the tutorial I was reading.

I love it so far, but I've only been using it for 5 mins and the only other Email client I have used is Outlook Express - it's certainly better than Outlook.
It has lots of good features, but I can't compare them to earlier versions because I have never used Thunderbird before. The junk mail filter seems to be doing a good job (it's already blocked an unwanted mail).
It looks really good too...
