Firefox vpn issue

I work from home a lot and our corporate vpn terminates in Germany. The issue I have is that when I go to certain webpages siuch as Yahoo and wikipedia Firefox diverts to the German versions of these sites. Even if I type the .com variant it still diverts to the German site.

Is there a setting in Firefox to stop this?

That will be the website directing you, not the browser. It's using you IP address, seeing you are in Germany (well it thinks you are) and then kicking you to the german site.

Not sure what you can do to get around that without changing your ip.
