Im slightly confused as to being a newbie when taliking of firefox, i have been reading some of the threads, but am i assuming that firefox is what i should be usinginstead if IE and do i have to d/load loads of plug-ins just to get all the features of IE, and...

WHAT MAKES IT SO GOOD????
thanks
S.

Firefox is stupidly STUPIDLY buggy at the moment, mine keep using about 700mb of ram and then crashing out. As has been said go with opera if you're not like me and seem to be allergic to it :\

Yes, you should be using it. I use it maily because you hardly get any pop ups. it's safer, easier and just a pleasure to use. However don't take my word for it. Just download it for free and try it.

On my windows XP SP2 machine, with 5 tabs open, it is taking around 63MB of ram :/

Tabs make it good. Stability (apparantly not for Zefan) makes it good. Open source code for optimizations makes it good. It renders pages faster and more accurately than IE. It makes a lot of common Internet tasks much easier. Try it out for a few weeks and see how you like it. I switched over when it was still called Firebird and I've been loving it ever since.

As for plugins, it needs essentially the same ones as IE; acrobat, Flash player, shockwave, quicktime, etc. You can get extensions for it that expand its functionality. Have a browse and see if any interest you. I use Imageshack uploader which lets me right click an image and automatically upload it to Imageshack. I also use IE tab that opens an IE session right inside the Firefox browser.

Mines been crashing randomly a few times recently since 1.5.05. Other than that Firefox is just a great browser (with a few plugins, see here ) It's much more secure and when a security hole is found it's patched V.Quickly. You get hardly any pop-ups and you can block all adverts (99%) with an extension (Adblock plus) You can also download many other helpful extensions, theme firefox and have a useful toolbar of all your most used websites which I can't live without now (See pic)
