As IE6 is being phased out, is this a good way to go. The last time I upgraded to IE7 it messed up all my connnection settings.

Maybe because I configure OE through googlemail, which can be changed if necessary, but I had to restore IE6 to get back onto the internet

Firefox is a tried and trusted browser that millions of people use. There is absolutely no reason why you can't use firefox :/

There is nothing stopping you using IE for certain tasks [for example, a lot of MS websites only work properly in IE].

Oh, and we're on IE8 now :D

i have not come across a website that only works properly in IE since 1997

i prefer opera, most stable and runs fastest but opera has some problems with one or two websites, like quake live doesn't work in opera... for example.

i found IE to be hang and freeze too often.

Pro’s and con’s to both I’m afraid…

Firefox offers, apparently I can’t prove this, better security and faster web browsing but it takes longer to load and takes up more system memory.

IE is part of the O/S, as it uses part of the Windows Explorer that loads when the O/S boots up. Therefore IE will load quicker, and use less memory then Firefiox, and Firefox cannot be used with Windows Update. Or at least its never worked for me, regardless of how many addons I’ve applied to try and make this work…

Firefox is however just as good as any IE version, and it certainly holds its own against MS and I use it pretty much as my primary web browser…

The additional load times and memory usage isn’t really that much of an issue with most PC’s these days…..

Install it, and give it a try…. It’s a free download, is really easy to install and see for yourself if its right for you…. Web browsers are subject to user experience… Some prefer Firefox, some prefer IE.

You're using IE6 still?! WOW! It's 10 years old, lol.

I actually hate IE6 with a passion, and it's so insecure it may aswell be a drugged up pornstar with daddy issues.

Upgrade to Google chrome or Firefox, NOW!

Until a week ago I was still using Windows XP.... That's 9 years old, and MS have updated IE 6 quite recently to patch any security flaws.. How well it has been done, and how secure - well.. Its microsoft..!! lol

Windows XP is still supported with SP3 till end of 2014 so technically, anyone could use IE6 on a still supported platform till June 2014 - I think... EOL for MS products can, and do change... Windows XP was meant to be EOL now, they even extended for a while a period where OEM could be obtained still. So, IE6 might be around for a little while longer yet...

IE7 was dreadful, it was nothing like firefox at the time, the tab browsing in IE7 was dire..!! IE8 is better, but I think Firefox has the edge but its all about choice..!!

I do recommend you download Firefox to just give it a try.....

Oh and MS have provided VPC pre created VHD files for users of Windows 7 or Vista that still need to use IE6, so they aren't going to be pulling the rug from under IE6 users just yet..

Some companies do have apps that need IE6... It was, after all the most used Web Browser of all time... Or one of the most used. IE4.0 was rather popular as well.

Firefox is the most customisable and user controllable, it also looks the smartest with TwentyTen or Strata40 and can be insanely secure if you want it to be.

If none of that interests you then perhaps Chrome...

Your best bet is to try each of the most well known web browsers and see which one you prefer. Opera - Mozilla Firefox - Internet Explorer 8 - Google Chrome - Safari

There is no single *best* browser. Such a question is completely subjective. Whilst the majority may favor a particular web browser, that doesn't necessary mean you are going to prefer it over the others. Try them all out and see which one you like the best.

May I suggest Palemoon? It's basically firefox optimized for windows. It claims to be 25% faster than FF. while I doubt it is 25% faster I have defiantly noticed a difference between the two.

What exactly is PaleMoon? Never heard of it before, the website talked a good game but after installing it simply opens firefox (with all the same bookmarks and extensions) which I can only assume to be an 'optimized' firefox as a pose to a separate browser.

Higadeb, does it run when I run firefox directly or only when I run PaleMoon?

Firefox is my life blood. Opera is also good but Firefox with all the add ons and extensions makes for an easily customisable browser I think.
