fireplaces and TVs?

hi peeps, i know they don't mix but is it feasible to have a fire (probably electric like this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4151209.htm#pdpProductReviews) and then a plasma TV on the wall about 4ft above it?

the fire will be aimed at coming out unlike a gas fire but obviously heat rises.... will it destroy the plasma in double quick time? :confused:

even with a mantlepiece above it I personally wouldn't be that comfortable with it but it doesn't mean it's not doable. Get over to AVForums and have a look at some people's set ups as I'm sure many will have done it.

Wouldn't this mean that your plasma tv will be near the ceiling. It should be at eye level when you are sitting down.

i was gonna have it about 1-2ft short of the ceiling. its a 50" plsma though so it takes up a lot of the available space. :confused:

sounds far to high imo, try to have the center at eye level for comfortability

I'm with these guys, the centre of my plasma is about half a foot above eye level while sat on the sofa which is spot on. I originally had it higher but remounted as it was just uncomfortable. It also depends on your viewing distance as well.

My Brother has had his LCD tv on the wall above his fireplace for the last 3 years, it's still going strong.

I actually took my gas fire out, built a unit that went into the chimney breast which houses the PS3, Wii and cable box and the 50" plasma went above it and it is just perfect.

cheers chaps. i'll be trying to et it nearest to the centre but its been made more difficult by the dado rail about half way up the wall. :confused:

might see if i can put the tv in front if that.
