Hi,

I recently purchased an LG C9 TV to replace my decade odd old 40" non smart TV and have been blown away by how good the WebOS is.

A few months ago i began to purchase films on itunes ready for my upcoming 4k TV purchase; i want to build up a collection of streaming films and heard itunes was the best selection/best quality/cheapest. I had assumed i would need to buy an Apple TV box when i got the new tv so this was fine. But with how good the WebOS is i am kind of torn now as apparently the only thing Apple TV is good for is the itunes as the youtube doesnt do 4k, the netflix doesnt do DV etc. I also read now that you have to mess about switching framerates/hdr etc depending on the film you are watching?

Now that the apple tv app has been released on firestick, should i grab one of those in the black friday sale and continue to purchase my movies on itunes or is it somehow lacking watching itunes movies compared to apple tv? The other option is bin off the 40 quid odd i have so far spent on movies on itunes and just start investing in another ecosystem. A guy at work has introduced me to ratuken tv which looks pretty decent?

Is anybody in a similar position with a nice 4k hdr tv? where do you purchase your films?

Cheers

I have the Apple TV 4K, bought last year long before I got my C9, and it does a very good job for playing my iTunes films. There is a couple of settings that allow you to set it to match content, Dynamic range and frame rate. This works well.

Ive no experience of the Firestick but I have used airplay to cast a film from my iPad to the C9, in Dolby Vision, but it doesn’t seem to be as good a quality as directly through the Apple TV 4K.

Alien 4K in HDR does look damn good.

Ah, if it can match content that's one less worry :)

firestick picture looked great too me watching the revenant 4k , had too buy using itunes on the laptop can't purchase stuff via the app just started using the service seems too be some decent offers on every week.

don't own the proper box so can't compare directly

if you get a stick set the Dynamic range settings to Adaptive. always hdr option seems too put dolby vision settings on everything even the menus.

The only one if your issues that is true is the YouTube on the ATV not being 4K, Netflix supports DV and you can match frame rate and dynamic range on the ATV.
