Just wondered which firewall, anti virus or all in one security suites use the least resources nowadays?
I was always told norton is a real resource hog(or used to be anyway)
I currently use NOD32 and zonealarm.
Thanks.

NOD32, Kaspersky (sp?), and Avira Antivir are all pretty good when it comes to system resources.

As for firewalls, Ashampoo Firewall and PC Tools Firewall plus are both pretty light and effective.

Norton 360 uses very little but for family use ideally not hardcore as you cant stop it defraging HDD etc ( I leave that to PerfectDisk).

I am currently using ESET Smart Security, its new, not matured but ok so far.

Well i've used zonealarm for years, i was told it is one of the best software firewalls, but is the firewall in the ESET suite as good as zonealarm?
I'm very tempted to buy this as nod32 is awesome!

Norton 360 uses less resourves than standlone Nod32 (tested in XP) but as above I want control of my Defrag App's etc.

I think ESET Smart Security is new and immature but getting better each build, its suffice.

I do not want 1 App from 1 vendor and another from another etc.

NOD32 is not new, I’ve been using it for years.

And Norton make the worst software I’ve ever had the misfortune to use. Words cannot describe my opinion of people that use Norton software. I would rather install a virus than Norton because my system would run better.

You need to read properly, I DID NOT say Nod32 was new, I used it years ago before most even heard of it.

ESET Smart Security IS new.

And Norton 2007 and 360 are both very good, your judging it on past resource hog builds, bit like peeps who say AMD run hot (back when Thunderbirds it was true).

You need get unstuck from the past m8.

I spend a great deal of time testing all the Betas (sign up) and decided now I will use the ESET Smart Security, but if I could disable some of the PC Tune Up features of Norton 360 I would use it instead and do for my customers.

Seconded.

Both 2007 full suite inc AV/Internet Security and 360 use less resources in XP than Nod32 which is only an AV.

360 is aimed at family use so does it all for them which does measn it Cleans up Files and Defrags HDD's not good for a power user, I cant live with that esp Defrag part.

Before ESET Smart Security, I was stuck on what to use as I want an "All in one" :)

I do not use 360 as I do not want it to defrag.

Windows defragger is rubbish IMO any in many others, it is basic and many peeps run their own 3rd party choice, mines is PerfectDisk.

Advise you read up on diff Defrag App's v Windows build in 1 which is a cut down 3rd party one in XP anyhow, the Vista one is not that much better.

Are you going to tell me the Windows Firewall is any good ?

I bet you run windows with no 3rd party App's and use would use Vistas built in ones inc Defender or even worst install OneCare :p

Why ?, you claim above "All that stuff can be done with Windows perfectly fine..." :p

Grab a Trial of OneCare is last like 200 (poss way more) days, then you have AV etc.

I've heard fantastic things about aVast! Antivirus.

Only niggles I've heard about is the user interface which is a bit iffy but alright once you get a good skin, the standard is nasty. :p
