I currently run my pc through a wireless network useing a Netgear DG834G router. Now this has built in firewalls already. But also on my pc I run a McAfee firewall. Is this necessary, or are the built in firewalls on the router ok? (I have no idea how to configure them either!)

its easy enough just go on there website and read on yes it is a good idea to have them because its just a ikle bit of extra security igf you go into services you can select which ports you may want to open then go to firewall rules and set it up there for a llist of ports etc go to www.portforward.com

The router firewall will only protect you from attacks from the web. Your software firewall will stop any malicious software on your PC sending out info that it shouldn't. So it's prob worth having both.

Thanks guys...just one more thing..if I do open up ports on the router will I also have to go onto my software firewall and open them up as well?
