I have numerous Cisco qualifications but I am now interested in also getting experience/training in the security/firewall side as well.
What model would anyone suggest is a good base to start learning on. ( Checkpoint, PIX, ASA ? )

For a start this may be better in the networking section.

Secondly, PIX has been replaced by ASA devices, so if you want to train for using cisco devices, ASA is what you should aim for as PIX has reached the end of its line.

You say you have numerous cisco qualifications, but have you tried getting one specificaly in a security field? Like cisco ASA specialist, or CCSP?

With the cisco background then the Cisco CCNA security might be a good place to start. Its now the prequiste for the CCSP exams. Then take at look the ASA exams, I think there is a foundation and advanced exam.

I'd go for Check Point as well, you can either do a course or just download the software for trial and set it up in vmware. You could probably find the study guides on the web somewhere although they are only supposed to be dished out as physical books.
