hi all, i have a firewire pci card in one of my machines and when i have a firewire device plugged in (audio device) it causes windows xp to hang on the splash screen.

I think ive heard of a similar issue with usb before and im wondering if they is anyway to fix it because its rather annoying having to unplug each time

thanks in advance :)

USB's can hang booting straight after post if they have an MBR on them but Firewire shouldn't.

Is it Bus Powered or does it have an external Power Adapter?. It could be that you're close to the maximum power output of your PC and Windows is hanging because of it.

I also recommend to be careful when unplugging and replugging in a bus powered Firewire device as it's not as safe as USB and CAN in the most extreme of circumstances kill your device (Rare as hell, but not worth the risk with shiny Audio Interfaces).

What Make/Model is your Audio Interface?

thanks a lot, im not using external power which is something to think about.

cheers for the advice on plugging and unplugging.

The interface is a Stanton / Traktor final scratch unit. i think i brought it new around 2005/6 and ive only had this problem with it since i started using on another pc

thanks for your help
