Been looking at Dell and HP, and I was surprised Firewire wasn't on any of the models (that I looked at).

Is Firewire still fitted on medium priced laptops? Looking at Core i5 and AMD Turion II and Phenom 2 at 2.5GHz+ for £600

I have the "mini" firewire port, (dont know real name) on my HP laptop from 3 years ago, it cost me 500 pounds at the time.

I cant say i have ever used it though, maybe this is why they have stopped putting them on as a lot of people may be like me and not use it.

EDIT: come to think of it i had used it for my video camera, i would have been out of luck without the firewire in that case!

check out their outlets, get the business models and they all comes with 3 years warranty.

i've a dell latitude e6410 core i5 which comes with nvidia gfx, firewire, esata port and additional docking station.

As another option would an ExpressCard do the trick?

Might give you extra choice of regular laptops.

I forgot about this thread.

I suppose a PCMCIA card could be used, but not looked at prices yet. So it might work out cheaper, and simplier in the long run, to increase budget for base machine.
