Some fireworks from last night, all done on my Nikon D200 with a Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 APO lens (yes I know- wider lens needed next year :p). I was using f4 at 70mm, in Manual with 'bulb' to control the shutter speed. Oh, I was hand-holding the camera, and it was blimmin' cold!! Small amounts of post-processing done in Photoshop, mainly levels, a crop and border.

More to follow...

Took her mum's dogs out for a walk in the afternoon sun, came up with this:

And the last one, is an obliging cat from next door (actually from a while ago but thought it'd be good here, shot on my Canon 300D)...

Comments & criticism welcome :)

Hello there

Of the fireworks my favoruite is #3, I love the deep colour and the smoothness of the trails (not too keen on the wiggly ones personally). The only (unfortunately quite distracting) problem with it is the white sphere in the top right, which I'm guessing was the moon. I'm not really struck by 6 & 7, they just look a bit empty compared to the others.

I really like the dog's expressions in all the dog photos, very nice colour too, all cracking shots. I think the cat one is let down slightly by the white on the cat which is a little over-exposed (although it's not too bad an effect actually).

Overall a very nice collection of photos, well done.

haha #10 is a cracking shot!

I would have given it a dreamy feeling to it in the post processing, something like this.... :p
Just out of interest, how did you acheive that effect? I quite like it... :)

9 and 10 are great :)

I dunno if that processing by colin is personal taste or what, but I think that effect looks horrid on that photo.

Thanks, the poor dog nearly had a heart attack the number of times I got her to run up the field towards the camera :D

I didn't like Colin's version of #10 to begin with, but it really grew on me. Reminds me of that Little Britain scene at Sandy Toksvig House where we meet 'Nan' and David Walliams pictures her in her younger days in a dreamy light, soft-focus 'aside'.

Anyway :p
