Fireworks, focussing (Updated with images)

I'm off to try and take some pictures tonight of some fireworks but Im a struggling to work out how to focus.

I am effectively going to be pointing the camera into the dark sky so I don't have a point to focus on. I was guessing also at the apperture around F10 with a 3 second shutter?

Does anyone have any suggestion of how to go about this?

Thanks!

i think you need AF-C or servo (is it called that for canon), not sure though

:/

No, that'd be a silly idea and the camera would be going mental trying to focus.

You'll have to do it manually.

If you have time, have a read up on hyperfocal distances and such. Failing that use Infinite focus or just a bit below and they'll probably be ok.

I'm guessing they're too close for infinity focus. Best way is to use manual focus and watch them through the viewfinder for a moment and get them looking sharp, shouldn't have to adjust it then

Unless you change focal length, then it will require re adjusting :)

Well I had a good time, got a couple of decent images although I managed to get part of a tree branch in every shot!!

I will upload a few of the "best"

This is my favourite picture of the night, the idea was to frame the firework with the trees. I think the idea was sound, just poorly executed by me, but if nothing else i taught myself a lesson tonight.

The only post processing is Auto white balance and exposure.

I am also a little dissapointed that I effectively crop the image as I have been taking it.

Any how a few lessons learned so not a bad first try!

Crikey for some reason I thought this was happening on Thursday

Cheers for the heads up, might take a trip through :)
