I've only had my D50 for a couple of days so I'm just trying to get used to it! Never had an SLR before! Apart from using a tripod how else could I improve these photos?
All shot at F5.6 (the lowest I could get it) and bulb setting,
Thanks

The problem here is the lack of a tripod. Trying to hold a camera steady enough for 1 second is very hard. Especially in a scene like this where and shake will show show. The consequence being the effects arnt very sharp.

Maybe try slightly shorter shutter speeds, long enough to get the whole burst in but minimising the shake.

And make sure have it set on multiple shots not single. That way you can shoot the same firework 3 or 4 times and choose the best one.
