Firm who replace memory in GTX280

Unless someone has another 280 or card with compatible memory that has failed in another area and you can transplant it would probably cost you quite a bit to get the correct ICs... and its quite a job even with the right tools...

Is there really not a single firm in the UK that could fix it for me? In Poland, just in a city where I used to live there were two big companies and the cost of the repair was about 25-30 pounds plus you were given 3 months warranty. I didn't have to know which of the ICs was broken, it was their job to find it and replace it.
I don't see see why it should be a problem to find the proper IC; you've got it's name on it and it costs almost nothing. It's just about replacing it with a new one. PCB and IC are the cheapest card components, it's GPU that costs the most.

Anyway, thanks everyone for trying to help me.

Even though you have a faulty memory chips you may still be able to use the card as a secondary in sli.

I have 3 gtx 280s and one of them the vga chip on it ( controls the dvi output ) is fried however because i dont use it as my main card it still works in sli config as my 3rd gpu.

I'd re try evga, but this time tell them you are the original owner, give them the name of a ficticious local pc store who has closed down in the recent economic climate, you are unable to gain support of contact from them and ask that evga directly honour their 10 year warranty

ehtical - no

possible solution - yes

good idea but my card are already registered in vega website
this "virtual" store buy from someone who buy in real shop and after sell it to me.. hm...

Yep the IC can even be ordered from overseas and they're not expensive... Fitting it is your main problem IMO.

wouldn't a memory problem still cause problems in sli? not 100% but don't sli use memory from both cards?

I understand what you are saying but in the UK you will probably find it will cost something ridiculous like £300. ie more than the cost of the card.

Thats why when TV's go bust or electronic equipment in general goes faulty it goes back for replacement or you have to buy a new one. If what you say above was true here and more common everyone would be taking their consoles and Sky HD boxes to the local repair shop to have a 5p capacitor repaired. Sadly it doesnt happen here.
