I have to say I got quite excited about Exchange Support and Cisco Compatible VPN on the new proposed 2.0 Firmware.

However, will you be able to update from a Jailbroken 1.1.x phone and will (or how long) it be able to be Jailbroken and still work with all these wonderful new features?

Shame where I work we are on Vodafone. :(

Seeing as it's in BETA at the moment for devs to use, I would expect to see it Jailbroken before it is released to the public.

I agree.

Just because it is called 2.0 doesn't mean that it will be much harder to jailbreak. It's really a new name for 1.1.5 and shouldn't take long to crack and will more than likely be cracked before the public release.

I hope they iron out the majority of bugs before they ship this.

By that I mean, it's all well and good shipping the firmware in June, but given that it's still beta and only just been distributed to developers then I'd rather see a 2.0.1 release come out, than a fresh-from-the-oven "2.0"

Not that I have no faith in Apple, but developing for the 2.0 firmware is all well and good, but if they fix a bug before the launch then it could delay a load of apps.

Seems so, starting to get the impression Apple have dropped the ball. Can't wait for new apps.

By letting out the beta 2.0 software they've got an excuse to plug the hole/exploit for the official release.

I'll bet you anything that there's going to be more builds before the final release, which will probably break the jailbreak.

This is just a warning shot from the dev community.

Id say its jailbreakable :D

This is just getting silly, don't you think? The iPhone Dev Team has once again proven their totally gnarly talents by freeing up the latest firmware before it's even the latest firmware. Apple, here's our suggestion -- just let people do what they want with your devices, since they're clearly going to do it anyway. That way, instead of making enemies, you're making lifelong buddies. Reasonable, right? Steve, give us a call, we're more than happy to riff on some ideas for playing nice with the end-user.

I would like to say that the 2.0 firmware is actually called "1.2", and will be renamed to 2.0 when it ships.

Thus, backing up my opinion that they'll update it to break the jailbreaks :p

From my understanding, the dev team have published the fact that they can break the 2.0 (or whatever it's called) firmware. But, they have not released the method used. So they have only made Apple aware that there is an exploit, not exactly what it is. Though given past experience, the method will be leaked!

The main update is support for the Apple "Apps store" and support for the sdk, but I guess you know about that one. I think there will also be a new preferences panel, to restrict access to mature content. That's it really, but App support is a biggy really.

i want flash and java support in safari really.

exchange isnt' a massive problem for me same as VPN isn't a big thing. Remote access would be handy but also would be mental.
