Hi, I have just upgraded my Netgear DG834 firmware to the latest version and my download speeds have dropped from an average of 5600 kbps to an average of 3200 kbps measured at the same time of day on both the BT Speed Tester and the Speedtest.net The result from both testers were very similar on all tests.

I am now wishing that I had left well alone as I had excellent speeds before the "upgrade", but you are continually advised to ge the latest drivers and firmware updates.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Stats as follows after upgrade, did not take them before.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream

Line Attenuation 23 db 6 db
Noise Margin 13 db 27 db

Those line figures are strange as hell, the ratio between atten down and up is odd, noise margin is massive. Hmmm.

Have you tried DGTeam or are you using official firmware?

Hi,

No idea what DGTeam is. I am using the software downloaded from the Netgear website. I do not have a copy of the stats before the firmware upgrade, but from memory I do not think they have changed much.

Is the place for DGteam firmware HOWEVER latest firmware for the GT models ARE inho broken, you `may` brick your router using the latest
So if you are using a GT model i recommend using and older firmware like 1012
Also read the info on how to flash, probably best to use the recovery method.Read up on this
p.s. Identify which version of router you have i.e. v1,V2 etc :)
Just my opinion of course

I don`t `think` the V2 has the broadcom chipset,i may be wrong. It is the broadcom chipset that will enable you to tweak the snr via a slider bar in the settings menu
There is a version of DGteams firmware for your router on the page however, might be worth a flash.
Or splash out £20 on a GT model from the bay
